Blueprint Reading & Technical Drawing Orientation 9-14-10 to 9-17-10

This course is directed to rising welders and shipfitters, or workers who need a familiarity with blueprint technology, symbols and design features specific to ships.

The course provides 28 hours of instruction with take-home activities, quizzes, and a final exam.  Attendees will receive critical drawing analysis experience, as well as hands-on blueprint activities.

Junior Supervisor Leadership & Safety Course 9/17, 9/24, 10/1 & 10/8

Supervisors are a critical link between the work on the ground and the planning that goes into production.  Today, the job of a Supervisor is complicated by changing work environments, and a new breed of employees coming in the door.

This course weaves Leadership and Management applications throughout the National Safety Council course.

Supervisors will learn about the labor market, their own leadership and management strengths and how to effect change on the waterfront. 

 We are limited to 25 spaces for this course, so don’t delay!

 This course is for supervisors with less than 5 years experience.

 Passing students will receive the National Safety Council Supervisors Certification

NAVSEA Cableway Training & Certification Course 9-20-10 to 9-24-10

At the urging of VSRA members, this course was incorporated in the VSRA training schedule in 2008.  This course is under the oversight of AMSEC and upon successful completion attendees will receive a NAVSEA Cableway Certification Card. The cableway program provides NAVSEA Cableway Training and Certification to students. This training and certification provides the students with the safety and knowledge to indpect the ship's cableways; identify and correct all Category 1 & 2 discrepancies to include: the removal of dead-end cables, repair of wire way discrepancies and correction of all Fire Zone and watertight discrepancies. The course delivers 35+ hours of lecture, video, hands-on-lab work and text based assignments over a five day period. A score of 70% or higher on the comprehensive exam is required for successful completion. The course covers all NAVSEA requirements and skill sets in depth. Emergency First Responders (EFR) Certification--9-28-10

This certification is a step beyond Red Cross certification and is more oriented to industrial environments. This one day course provides comprehensive instruction in CPR and first aid, as well as Automated External Defribillator (AED) use, emergency oxygen administration and conscious choking management skills.

This is a 1/2 day refresher from 7:30am to 11:30am for those who were certified in 2007, and their certification will expire this year.   The EFR course meets OSHA Guidelines 29 CFR 1910.151 compliance standards for workplace safety.
