Vice Admiral William J. Galinis is a native of Delray Beach, Florida. He is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School.

Galinis’ sea duty assignments included Engineer Officer onboard USS Roark (FF 1053) and Damage Control Assistant onboard USS Vreeland (FF 1068).

The March General Membership Luncheon meeting was held at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. The guest speaker was RDML Jason Lloyd from Naval Engineering and Logistics, SEA 05, Naval Sea Systems Command.

On March 16th approximately 100 students from 9 Middle Schools throughout the Hampton Roads Area participated in the 17th Annual Ship Repair Digital Innovation Competition at Nauticus.  The event - which promotes the ship repair industry while increasing competitive mathematical, analytical, and conceptual skills in middle school aged students proved to be a great success again this year.

Our partners at Tidewater Community College are in search of Maritime Structural Fitting instructors at their Skilled Trades Academy in Portsmouth.

Ensuring our community college partners have the best instructors has a tremendous impact on bringing qualified, highly skilled workers into the Ship Repair industry.

Your active and engaged Virginia Ship Repair Foundation (VSRF) Board of Directors has embarking on a new partnership in summer of 2022 with the Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU).  This partnership was forged with the goal and objective to provide valued educational opportunities to our VSRA member companies and their employees. VWU has developed four off the shelf educational programs for our ship repair industry students.

The 37th Annual VSRF Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Cypress Point Country Club, 5340 Club Head Road, Virginia Beach, VA  23455.

The Virginia Ship Repair Association, in partnership with the Virginia Ship Repair Foundation, conducts outreach, awareness, and advocacy activities that strengthen the ship repair industry and improve the business environment for our members.
