Paul Fields has over 30 years of experience serving in and working for the U.S. Navy. He enlisted at the age of 17, and after a highly successful 27 year Navy career, he retired as a Commander, Engineering Limited Duty Officer with extensive experience in surface engineering operations, maintenance, program management, inspection and training, Submarine Sub-Safe, Nuclear maintenance, Special Warfare and Special Operations support/maintenance.
During his Naval career, Paul held the titles of Repair Officer, Sublant/Subpac QA Officer, Dive Officer and Naval Personnel Command Assignment Officer. He served as the Chief Engineer on 5 different warships, including USS Inchon (MCS-12) in 2001-02 and USS Wasp (LHD-1) in 2006-07 where he was recognized by the Type Commander as the top Chief Engineer in the Surface Force Command. Paul also served as the Commander Mine Warfare Command Chief Engineer in Corpus Cristie, TX in 1999-01 and on the Board of Inspection and Survey in 2002-03 as the Senior Damage Control Inspector and primary consultant to the Admiral (PREINSURV) on all matters concerning Damage Control, Steam, Diesel, and Gas Turbine operations and training. In 2005-06, he was the Commanding Officer and Officer In Charge of the Center Naval Engineering Learning Site in Norfolk, overseeing the management and execution of all 220 courses of instruction across 14 CNE Learning Sites.
Upon retiring from the Navy, Paul become the Vice President and Director, Navy Expeditionary Directorate at American Systems, after serving as Program Manager responsible for sustaining support to the PMS 470 contract with NAVSEA and the development and initial management of the Engineering Readiness Assist Team (ERAT). As Vice President, he managed work allocation, rate and goal planning, employee hiring, performance reviews, business plan development, contract administration and budgeting, project coordination and GOVWIN.
Paul joined General Dynamics NASSCO-Earl Industries in August 2011 as the General Manager of Norfolk Ship Repair. His responsibilities include establishing and implementing departmental policies, goals, objectives and procedures, and overseeing activities and correspondence directly related to providing services to its customers, especially the US Navy, to foster long term business relationships.
Mr. Fields holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in Engineering Management from Western Illinois University. He is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers.
