Jason Mitchell

Jason Mitchell became the Assistant General Manager of NASSCO-Norfolk in August 2012.  In this position he is responsible for Program Management, Production Management and Trade / Workforce Management for all ship repair, maintenance and modernization performed by the General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk location.

 

Mitchell has a strong new construction background, most recently as the Director of Outfitting for General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego from March 2010 to August 2012.  In that position he was responsible for all aspects of safety, quality, schedule, cost and continuous improvement performance on unit assembly, invert outfitting and grand-blocking in two stages of new construction.  In this role, he managed the completion of about one million man-hours annually, or about 70 percent, of the outfitting on each ship.

 

Mitchell began his career with NASSCO as a student intern.  Following two years as a production associate in the company’s Professional Development Program, he advanced to the position of Engine Room Manager in 2005, managing the final stage of construction, commissioning and testing of the engine room for T-AKE dry cargo/ammunition ships.  Mitchell attained the position of Ship Manager in April 2007, serving as the single point of contact responsible of safety, quality, schedule and cost for T-AKE ship construction, overseeing the activities to strategize and develop block construction schedules to meet NASSCO’s overall schedule and cost objectives.

 

Mitchell earned his bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering & Shipyard Management from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.  He holds a master’s degree in Operations Management from San Diego State University.  Mitchell also possesses a USCG Third Engineer License, Unlimited Horsepower and is a U.S. Naval Reservist.
