OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry Course (March 3-4)

The OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry course awards the 10-Hour certification card and meets all of the mandated regulations for the Maritime Industry (OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1915) course in a format that specifically addresses the challenges and environmental conditions specific to the shipyards. In addition, shipyard specific regulations and issues are covered in depth. Instructors are authorized by OSHA endorsed certification programs. Cards are issued through the Instructor's certifying body. All book, material and certification costs are covered in the course fee.

Security Committee Meeting

Our guests will be from MARMC Industrial Security and PHYSEC.  Also joining us will be Robert Baldwin and Chad Coffin from Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Industrial Security.  Bring your questions or concerns.  We’ll also discuss the newly released SECNAV 5512 Form.

Our next HR Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, March 5, when we’ll welcome two speakers from the Virginia Employment Commission, who will address both ends of the employment relationship.  One speaker will discuss the various services and options the VEC has to provide our member companies in finding and hiring good new employees best suited to the needs of their workplace, and the other will provide our members tips and advice on how to be most effective in responding to and contesting former employees’ unemployment compensation claims received by the VEC.  This presentation is certain to be of value to every one of our members, so I very much hope you will be able to join us!

Contracts Committee Meeting

Our presenter for this month will be Mr. Aaron Simmons, Technical Director for Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Centers.  Aaron will discuss the revisions to NAVSEA Standard Items for FY26, along with other updates from CNRMC.

Cableway Improvement Program (CIP) Installation, Repair and Inspection (March 17-21)

This course is under the oversight of HII Technical Solutions and upon successful completion attendees will receive a NAVSEA Cableway Certification card. The cableway program provides NAVSEA Cableway training and certification to students.

19th Annual Ship Repair Digital Innovation Competition

Ship repair is a 6.4 billion dollar industry in Hampton Roads – and provides career opportunities for more than 60,000 workers in the region! The Virginia Ship Repair Foundation is sponsoring a LEGO Ship Repair Industry Awareness Competition for middle school students. The purpose of the competition is to promote ship repair industry awareness, while increasing student’s competitive mathematical, analytical and conceptual skills.
