Mechanical Field Service Technician (Millwright)

 We are currently seeking a Mechanical Field Service Technician.

 Job Description:

  • Significant travel to customer sites required. (60% overnight travel – Typically 250-mile radius) – Services paper mills, power plants, water treatment plants, etc…
  • Removal and reinstallation of equipment serviced in our shop [electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, etc.]
  • Utilize basic rigging skills to safely move equipment on and off foundations and transportation means.
  • Precision alignment of rotating equipment using dial indicators and laser alignment equipment.
  • Performing mechanical diagnostics on operational equipment utilizing vibration analysis along with physical inspection and visual examination.
  • Working on existing equipment in customer facilities, performing in-place repairs and field maintenance.
  • Interfacing with end users / customers to assist in determining the cause of mechanical failures and to help produce proactive solutions to mechanical failures.

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years working in mechanical environments.
  • Must be familiar with an industrial safety environment.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices is required.
  • Possess a positive team player attitude and overall motivation to succeed.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements for position, including but not limited to ability to be on feet for an extended period, bend/stoop/kneel as needed, use of both hands, and ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds up and down multiple levels of industrial environments.
  • We are a service industry on call to our customers 24/7/365.  To meet our customers’ needs, employees must be able to work overtime as needed.  This will include extending normal shift hours and/or days and emergent call-in work outside of assigned shift.
  • Must be a good communicator, have a positive attitude, able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to complete written reports for work done on customers’ sites is required.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • High mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Training and experience in vibration analysis, laser alignment, and repair of electric motors, pumps & generators are a plus. 

 NOTE: This position requires drug and background screening.

An outside machinist installs and repairs equipment, sets up and handles manufacturing machinery and ensures that production equipment is adequate and functional. The machinist also operates machines manually or through control mechanisms, inspects equipment and materials and communicates with co-workers, subordinates and superiors.

An Outside Machinist's typical duties include:
- Disassembling or dismantling valves or pumps, inspecting for wear and assessing replacement need, then re-assembling
- Installing stanchions and hand rails for gratings and ladders
- Installing piping for steam, exhaust, suction, discharge, heating, and/or refrigeration
- Dismantling, inspecting and repairing deck machinery, main engines, generator governors, and/or turbines
- Running horizontal and vertical lines for alignment of engines
- Overhauling and repairing refrigerating machinery
Education
Most outside machinist careers require a high school diploma, as well as training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, and/or an associate's degree.

Outside machinists usually need one or two years of on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be available.
Qualifications
Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is typically required. Outside Machinists generally have a broad background in diesel repair and maintenance.
