Rate of Pay: $26.00 per hour (No per diem available)
DESCRIPTION:
Hutco, Inc. is seeking an experienced EHS Representative for our Environmental Health and Safety department in Norfolk, VA. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintaining safety standards across shipyard operations.
The EHS Representative will work closely with Production, Repair, Maintenance, Medical, and Emergency Response teams to ensure a safe work environment. This position requires the ability to manage stressful situations and work in various conditions, including confined spaces, elevated platforms, and outdoor shipyard environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct daily shipboard safety inspections for vessels on and off-site.
- Perform safety walks of facility grounds to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
- Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and earplug dispensing stations.
- Maintain MSDS/SDS records for ongoing projects.
- Conduct air quality surveillances, including breathing air and Grade D air tests.
- Inspect scaffolding systems before work begins.
- Monitor industrial lift equipment for license verification and ODCL (Operator Daily Check List) completion.
- Develop and update work instructions, safety procedures, and training materials; participate in training events.
- Conduct accident investigations, prepare reports, and identify hazards, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Stay updated on OSHA and other relevant safety regulations.
- Establish effective communication with department/ship managers and maintain a close working relationship.
- Conduct daily inspections to ensure compliance by all personnel, including subcontractors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High School diploma or GED with 4 years of related experience; or an AS degree in a related EHS field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in safety enforcement roles comparable to an EHS Representative within industrial, commercial, or construction environments.
- Certifications: Continuing education in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent. Must complete and pass courses, including OSHA 3095, OSHA 5410, and Shipyard Competent Person.
- Skills: Knowledge of OSHA standards 1915 and 1910. Must handle stressful situations effectively and demonstrate strong communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to access Navy installations and other shipyards.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, work at heights, and navigate scaffolding.
- Physical dexterity for bending, reaching, climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, fumes, gases, welding fumes, and extreme climates.
- Visual acuity is required for close and distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Regular vision exams are required.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to the EHS Manager and HS Supervisor.
- Maintains communication and collaboration with Production, Repair, Maintenance, Medical, and Emergency Response teams.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must gain access to government facilities.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must have proficiency in English for both oral and written communication.
- Reliable onsite attendance is an essential job function.
