Position Title: Environmental Safety and Health Specialist (ESH I, II, III)

Summary of duties – Provides environmental, health and safety compliance support for Prism Maritime, LLC Quality Assurance and Environmental Health and Safety Departments. Assist in developing and Implementing ESH strategy, policies and procedures to support corporate goals while satisfying the needs of our clients. Assists QA/ESH Team Management with all Federal, State, and multiple local site ESH regulatory reporting requirements.
Specific description of duties:
- Works directly with QA/ ESH Department Team and Operations Department Personnel to address and enforce compliance with company safety policy, contract safety requirements, and Federal, State, and multiple local site ESH requirements.
- Utilizes knowledge of objectively review on board installations and other worksites to conduct routine and emergent on-site safety and environmental compliance inspections.
- Assists in meeting the training requirements for Office, Shop, and Shipboard support and production personnel on related and applicable Health/Safety and Environmental awareness, standards, practices, and requirements.
- Conducts internal audits/surveillance to ensure adherence to company procedures/policy in the areas of safety, environmental compliance, and training.
- Confers with QA/ESH, Operations, and other support Departments determine the best practices and approach to ESH compliance and corrective and preventative actions when required.
- Conducts noise and air monitoring and other related industrial hygiene tests in accordance with identified processes to develop and maintain exposure profiles.
- Reviews all data, ensuring that performance and quality of products conform to established company, International (ISO), and governmental regulatory standards and agency guidelines, and to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Provides direct support to Operations Department when required to Evaluate worksites to identify job hazards and establish appropriate controls that can encompass the full range of occupational safety and health hazards related to the work environment.
- Assists in providing and maintaining ESH records and support documentation to support a broad spectrum of individual and specific tasking requirements.
- Assists in managing company ESH Program though review and updates of manuals, policies, programs, and procedures.
- Must be physically capable to access and transverse all areas of a ship on a daily basis.
- Overtime is routinely required but not guaranteed
- Personal transportation required for local inspections. Travel outside the local area may be required, national and international
- Possession of an active State Driver’s License is required
- Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.
Level II, III
- Assists in developing/modifying Level II, III & IV ESH program documents.
- Be willing and capable to cross train and assist in Quality related aspects of the QA/ESH Department to fulfill and support company objectives.
Education/Specialized Training:
High School Diploma and any of the following combination of education and experience:
US Military experience related to Environmental Safety and Health can be substituted for education or shipyard industry related experience requirements and will be determined by the applicability and competency demonstrated by the applicants resume.
Level I:
- 1 year Environmental Safety and Health shipyard industry related experience and Associates Degree
- 3 years of direct Environmental Safety and Health Experience in Shipbuilding/Repair Industry;
Level II:
- 2 years Environmental Safety and Health shipyard industry related experience and Bachelor’s Degree
- 4 years Environmental Safety and Health shipyard industry related experience and Associates Degree
- 6 years of direct Environmental Safety and Health Experience in Shipbuilding/Repair Industry;
Level III:
- High School Diploma and any of the following combination of education and experience:
- 4 years Environmental Safety and Health shipyard industry related experience and Bachelor’s Degree
- 6 years Environmental Safety and Health shipyard industry related experience and Associates Degree
- 8 years of direct Environmental Safety and Health Experience in Shipbuilding/Repair Industry;
Preferred or able to obtain the following certifications/licenses
OSHA 5400 Maritime Trainer
- OSHA 5410 OSHA Standards for Maritime Industry
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification
- First Aid and CPR
- Shipyard Competent Person
- Certified Asbestos Inspector
Security Clearance:
- Clearance up to Secret level required.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Be able to access all US Military facilities, Homeland Security facilities and private shipyards
Physical/Environmental Job Requirements:
Physical requirements include the following:
- Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds
- Routinely climbing several flights of stairs
- Performing tasks in confined spaces
Our work is primarily onboard naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e. stooping, climbing, walking, etc.
In performing these duties, you may be required to work outdoors. You will experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises and other physical hazards.
