Field Engineer

Crofton is seeking a Field Engineer to join our team.

The Field Engineer is responsible for assisting Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers and
Superintendents in the day-to-day responsibilities of the project to which they are assigned. The Field Engineer will be focused on coordinating the activities of a project to ensure cost, schedule, document control and quality standards are met.


Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Meets daily with project crews to review production schedule & work plans and confirm all
    materials, equipment and resources are readily available for production.
  • Coordinates subcontractors on site. Reviews and approves daily timecards for crews.
  • Maintains up to date set of Construction Documents at the job site: Construction
    Drawings, Specifications, Shop Drawings, SDS’s, RFI’s, Submittals, Purchase Orders, Construction and Delivery Schedules, QC Plan, NCR Log, HASP, JHA’s, Lift Plans, QC inspections, etc.
  • Inspects and tracks deliveries, records any deviations from scheduled deliveries and adjusts delivery dates as necessary to meet Project Schedule.
  • Works with the Assistant Project Manager to resolve technical and engineering queries that arise from the field, including drafting/completing documents such as requests for information, technical inquiry forms, and transmittals.
  • Procures misc. materials and tools for the project.
  • Arranges for surveying and staking out work.
  • Provides necessary layouts. Measures and verifies that work to be installed is per construction drawings and specifications.
  • Maintains as-builts & red-lined drawings.
  • Ensures that work is performed per project QC Plan.
  • Initiates and manages appropriate certificates, inspections, and other documentation regarding construction production on the project site.
  • Assists Superintendent with meeting health & safety requirements by following approved HASP and maintaining JHA’s, safety inspections, rigging inspections, lift plans, etc. at the job site.
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices and rectifies job site hazards.
  • Ensures all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy.
  • Reports any safety incident within 1 hour of occurrence.

  • Strong Knowledge of all phases of Heavy Marine Construction, including work commonly done by other trades is desired.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Word, Excel.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, AutoCAD or MS Project is a plus.

 Education and Experience:

  • Formal training in Construction management or education is desired. Experience in lieu of education will be considered.
  • Experience in marine construction.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exposure to characteristic Construction and marine site dangers.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 40 pounds in all directions.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Ability to respond quickly to sounds.
