Safety & Quality Specialist

Duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain, controls and inventories PPE and equipment for all trades. Monitor and maintain the following: hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes administration, rigging equipment, CP gas meters, heat stress meters, welder jackets, etc.
  • Conduct Safety Training for trades & new hires, keep current Train Tracks #s: 1001, 1026, 1003, EHR-09, 1004, 1005, 1023, 1006, 1017, 1007, 1008, 1021, 1010, 29 CFR 1910.95, 1027, 1028, 1035, 1012, 1013, 1015, 1031, 1016, 2004, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2005, 2044, etc.
  • Conduct random inspection & audits of work sites to ensure safety and quality compliance is in place.
  • Maintain safety documentation required in accordance with OSHA requirements.
  • Evaluate field safety conditions through audit/monitoring and advise management on findings: tracks corrections of all deficiencies.
  • Report and assist in the control of environmental hazards as mandated.
  • Review and advise management of worker credentials as required.
  • Document and report to management of supervisors and workers' safety compliance.
  • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Assist in the identification of possible losses; evaluate the risk in such loss exposure and develop and implement a plan to correct or prevent a loss.
  • Report assigned work location as determined by QA/Safety Surveillances Weekly Schedule Smartsheet & update schedule to reflect any changes: PAL, redirection, etc.
  • Daily deliverable of written Safety Surveillance at the end of the shift for each job site visited that day.
  • Monthly deliverable conduct inspection of all fire extinguishers in Norfolk VA area.
  • When reporting to a job site (ship) for the day, report with the crew and be present for pre-job brief.
  • Notify your manager when physically leaving the worksite at the end of the day.

 

Required Experience:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental studies, Safety. Military experience
  • 5-10 years of professional experience with a strong knowledge of EHS Standards
  • Possess knowledge of hazardous waste regulation and OSHA requirements
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High performance and a strong team player
  • Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures
  • Commitment to company values, policies and procedures and the safety program
  • Completion of the OSHA 5410 Maritime Safety Course
  • Completion of the OSHA 3095 Electrical Safety Course
  • Completion of the OSHA 3115 Fall Protection
  • Completion of the OSHA 521 Industrial Hygiene
  • CSHO, CSP, PSHO
  • Possess the ability to understand and administer OSHA, USCG, NAVSEA & safety-related standard items & local shipyard policies & procedures

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to open-air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold condition.
  • Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.
  • Must wear various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection, as required.
  • Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components.
  • Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.
  • Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment.
  • May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.
  • Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing.
  • May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information.
  • Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and cold.
