The 26th Annual Safety & Health Seminar was held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, Chartway Arena, ODU. The Seminar was a great success due to the diligent efforts of the 11 members of the Safety Seminar planning committee. The seminar attracted 337 attendees.
There were 225 registrants signed up to attend representing over 66 VSRA member companies.
We want to extend our appreciation to the 52 companies who sponsored the event. We especially want to thank the 39 sponsor companies and their 103 sponsor representatives who attended and provided attractive displays.
Many thanks to our 14 keynote speakers and presenters whose presentations provided attendees timely and beneficial information vital to safety in the ship repair industry. The importance of this year’s safety theme, “Attention = Prevention” was underscored by the remarks of each of our presenters.
Agenda highlights included: Our Opening Keynote, Capt. Jay Young, Commanding Officer, MARMC, who presented, “A Customer’s Perspective;” Hazard Assessment; Ergonomics on the Deckplates; Hazmat Locker and Storage and Labeling Management; Production Executive Panel - "Balancing Safety & Production; Planning Safety Into Production; Communicating Effectively with Your Workforce; a Fall Protection DEMO; a Safety in the Cordless Tool World DEMO; and a Scaffolding DEMO.
Seminar attendees held their breath as they watched a powerful safety video presented during the Lunch session.
Additional highlights of the event were the “Jeopardy” game and numerous raffle prize drawings.
Plans are already underway for next year’s 27th Annual Safety & Health Seminar. Please plan on supporting safety by sponsoring this important event in 2023.
