Committee Reports

VSRA's Committees are open to all members and meet regularly to discuss a range of topics pertinent to the industry. Active participants in these committees are recognized as leaders both in their specific areas of expertise and in the committee structure. Members are encouraged to engage in these meetings to not only share their knowledge but also to collaborate on addressing mutual concerns, shaping the association's positions, and developing educational content for the broader membership.

We'd like to share details on recent and upcoming committee information and we encourage your involvement.

  • Communications - Chair: Zebedee Hamilton (Tidewater Staffing)
    Next Meeting: October 23th, 2024
    The Communications Committee had their last meeting on August 28th. There will be continued discussions over the communcation in the Association, the newsletters, and how to better share information of the industry to those in Hampton Roads. 

  • Contracts - Chair: Tony Mazzeo (Woods Rogers Vandeventer Black PLC)
    Next Meeting: October 3rd, 2024
    The Contracts Committee had their last meeting on September 5th, where Ms. Stacey Cooper, Deputy of Small Business Programs at Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center discussed small business opportunities and programs both at MARMC and across the Government.

  • Cybersecurity - Chair: Tracy Gregorio (G2 Ops)
    Next Meeting: September 26th, 2024
    The Cybersecurity Committee had their last meeting on June 27th. The next committee meeting will be fully virtual and have Mr. Brian Biven, Director of the NAVSEA Cyber Planning and Response Center (CPRC), NAVSEA 03, as the guest speaker to discuss key threat topics and provide a summary of the free cyber services and solutions available through DC3/DCISE, NCIS, and the NSA.

  • Human Resources - Chair: Chris Abel (Willcox Savage)
    Next Meeting: October 2nd, 2024
    The Human Resources Committee had their last meeting on September 4th, which Patricia Gibson from the Urban League of Hampton Roads addressed strategic use of diversity initiatives in talent acquisition and employee retention on the waterfront.

  • Quality Assurance - Chairs: Dennis Robbins (MHI Ship Repair and Services) and Mark Salladay (Colonna's Shipyard)
    Next Meeting: November 5th, 2024
    The Quality Assurance Committee had their last meeting on September 10th, which was another of the usual QMB/QA Committee combined meetings with covered reviews of previous minutes, QMB meeting agenda items, action items, audit database status, SSRAC updates, Weld Procedure Transfer Day, and opportunities for QA Committee improvements.

  • Safety and Environmental - Chairs: Larry Ryan (MHI Ship Repair and Services) and Donna Watkins (General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk)
    Next Meeting: November 14th, 2024
    The Safety and Environmental Committee had their last meeting on September 12th, which had environmental updates, SSRAC 2024, sub-committee reports on safety and health initiatives, a vote on the 2nd quarter Safety Suggestion, training and safety updates, and discussions on various environmental topics.

  • Security - Chairs: Leigh Kennedy (General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk) and Neil Burns (MHI Ship Repair and Services)
    Next Meeting: November 5th, 2024
    The Security Committee had their last meeting on September 3rd, which was our MARMC meeting with John Johnson, Garret Hiller, Jocelyn Perkins and Dakota Jackson, along with new staff members, MacKenzie Duplisea and Bobby Reed.

  • Workforce Development - Chair: Tim Richardt (Hampton Roads Workforce Council)
    Next Meeting: October 9th, 2024
    The Workforce Development Committee had their last meeting on August 14th, which had the topics of the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, and funding assistance opportunities for maritime employers and the funding assistance programs currently offered by the Hampton Roads Workforce Council (HRWC).
