Committee Reports

VSRA's Committees are open to all members and meet regularly to discuss a range of topics pertinent to the industry. Active participants in these committees are recognized as leaders both in their specific areas of expertise and in the committee structure. Members are encouraged to engage in these meetings to not only share their knowledge but also to collaborate on addressing mutual concerns, shaping the association's positions, and developing educational content for the broader membership.

We'd like to share details on recent and upcoming committee information, and we encourage your involvement.

  • Communications - Chair: Zebedee Hamilton (Tidewater Staffing)

    Next Meeting: February 26th, 2025
    There will be continued discussions over the communcation efforts from the Association, the newsletters, our social media accounts, and how to better share information of the industry to those in Hampton Roads.

  • Contracts - Chair: Tony Mazzeo (Woods Rogers Vandeventer Black PLC)
    Last Meeting: December 5th, 2024
    Next Meeting: February 6th, 2025
    The Contracts Committee had their last meeting on December 5th, where the committee met to discuss the state of the committee and relevant future topics and concerns. Tony Mazzeo has announced he will be stepping down from his run as Contracts Committee's Chair following the May 2025 meeting, so if you are interested in learning more about the position, please reach out to Tony.

  • Cybersecurity - Chair: Tracy Gregorio (G2 Ops)

    Next Meeting: February 27th, 2025
    The Cybersecurity Committee had their last meeting on October 24th. The committee meeting had Kendra Queeney (Senior Manager, SCM Compliance & Operations at Huntington Ingalls Industries) as the guest speaker, discussing how they handle cybersecurity requirements and CMMC flow downs.

  • Human Resources - Chair: Chris Abel (Willcox Savage)
    Last Meeting: January 8th, 2025
    Next Meeting: February 5th, 2025
    The Human Resources Committee held its most recent meeting on January 8th where the committee discussed the potential topics for the year and 2025's Seminar happening in April

  • Quality Assurance - Chairs: Dennis Robbins (MHI Ship Repair and Services) and Casey Tarnowski (Lyon Shipyard, Inc.)
    Last Meeting: January 14th, 2025
    Next Meeting: March 11th, 2025
    The Quality Assurance Committee just had their last meeting on January 14th, which was another of the usual QMB/QA Committee combined meetings which covered reviews of previous minutes, QMB meeting agenda items, action items, and more.

  • Safety and Environmental - Chairs: Larry Ryan (MHI Ship Repair and Services), Donna Watkins (General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk), and Nate Stanton (General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk)
    Last Meeting: January 9th, 2025
    Next Meeting: March 13th, 2025
    The Safety and Environmental Committee had their last meeting on January 9th, which covered updates on OSHA-VSRA Partnership activities, safety suggestion program improvements, heat illness prevention standards, hot work safety protocols, training collaborations with Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and upcoming events and workshops, while also calling for volunteers for various initiatives.

  • Security - Chairs: Leigh Kennedy (General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk)
    Last Meeting: January 7th, 2025
    Next Meeting: March 4th, 2025
    The Security Committee had their last meeting on January 7th which had Leigh Kennedy providing an overview of the committee's mission and accomplishments, addressing changes in Navy and DoD security policies, highlighting industry collaboration on key security issues, and announcing upcoming events and initiatives to enhance security awareness and participation.

  • Workforce Development - Chair: Tim Richardt (Hampton Roads Workforce Council)
    Last Meeting: December 11th, 2024
    Next Meeting: February 12th, 2025
    The Workforce Development Committee had their last meeting on December 11th, which focused on the Marine Trade Training program. We had presentations from Tidewater Community College, Paul D. Camp Community College, New Horizons Regional Education Center, Tim Richardt, and Joe Frommelt.
