OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry Course (March 4-5)

The OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry course awards the 10-Hour certification card and meets all of the mandated regulations for the Maritime Industry (OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1915) course in a format that specifically addresses the challenges and environmental conditions specific to the shipyards. In addition, shipyard specific regulations and issues are covered in depth. Instructors are authorized by OSHA endorsed certification programs. Cards are issued through the Instructor's certifying body. All book, material and certification costs are covered in the course fee.

Security Committee Meeting

The next Security Committee Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., in-person and with Zoom, at the Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA) Offices: 101 W. Main Street, Norfolk, VA 23510.  Please RSVP to attend in-person. 

Invited guests are MARMC Industrial Security; John Johnson, Jocelyn Perkins, Garret Hiller and Dakota Jackson.  Also joining us will be Robert Baldwin and Chad Coffin from Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Industrial Security.

Human Resources Committee Meeting

Valerie Epson from OneDigital will present to us on “Strategies and Options for Using Nonmonetary Benefits and Incentives to Boost Recruitment and Retention Efforts” in our member companies’ workforces.  We hope you will be able to join us for it!

Contracts Committee Meeting

Our presenter for this month will be Aaron Simmons, Technical Director for Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center.  Aaron will discuss the revisions to NAVSEA Standard Items for FY25, along with other updates from CNRMC.

VSRF Ship Repair Admirals Night

Join the Ship Repair Community for an evening of hockey and networking! Hockey Night will be held at the Norfolk Scope Arena on March 9, 2024! Sponsorship Packages are still available - including an opportunity to set up a table to promote your company at the game!

Cableway Improvement Program (CIP) Installation, Repair and Inspection (March 11-15)

This course is under the oversight of HII Technical Solutions and upon successful completion attendees will receive a NAVSEA Cableway Certification card. The cableway program provides NAVSEA Cableway training and certification to students.

Quality Assurance Committee Meeting

VSRA QMB and Quality Assurance Committee meetings will be combined for all future meetings. VSRA Quality Assurance Committee members are invited to participate in both sessions. The first portion of the meeting will be the QMB session with MARMC representatives. Once the MARMC representatives have been released, the QA Committee portion of the meeting will follow.

The next SMB/Safety & Environmental Committee meeting will be held on March 14, at 9:00-10:30 AM, in-person and with Zoom, at the Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA) Offices: 101 W. Main Street, Suite 5500, Norfolk. Seating will be limited, you MUST RSVP to attend in-person.

Standard Items (March 18-19)

This is a 2 day course that explains the history and purpose of the NAVSEA Standard Items.

18th Annual Ship Repair Digital Innovation Competition (formerly LEGO)

Ship repair is a 6.4 billion dollar industry in Hampton Roads – and provides career opportunities for more than 60,000 workers in the region! The Virginia Ship Repair Foundation is sponsoring a LEGO Ship Repair Industry Awareness Competition for middle school students. The purpose of the competition is to promote ship repair industry awareness, while increasing student’s competitive mathematical, analytical and conceptual skills.

VSRA General Membership Luncheon Meeting

VSRA Board of Directors meetings are held on the odd numbered months. The General Membership Luncheon meetings are held every month.
