It was Eagle, Birdie, Par for the course at Cypress Point Country Club on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, for the 36th annual Virginia Ship Repair Foundation golf tournament. Volunteers and staff arrived in full swing to greet golfers as they checked in with the volunteer staff at registration to receive commemorative items and lunch in celebration of our 36th year. Once again it was a sold-out event and Mother Nature played along quite well too.
Registration and sponsorships were launched early in the year and to no surprise, all 144 golfer slots quickly sold out. What was surprising is that they sold out with full sponsorships in less than 17 minutes, another record-setting time! 61 out of 302 member companies (20%) were sponsors, contributors, participants or volunteered. This year we were able to secure 75 door prize items along with 16 big ticket items for the golfers. A big thank you to Tom Taylor and Bay Metals & Fabrication, LLC for providing a “grand prize” this year.
As golfers rolled in for dinner with score cards in hand and high hopes of winning some fantastic prizes, assistant pro welcomed everyone to the after golf social. Tom Epley, Chairman of the Board also welcomed everyone and recognized all of our amazing sponsors and volunteers for their continued support. Congratulations to HII Fleet Support Group LLC in winning first place. Coming in second was Craft and Technical Solutions, LLC and Johnson Controls Building Automation Systems placed third.
This annual event achieved fantastic success, all benefiting the Virginia Ship Repair Foundation, focusing on community outreach, industry awareness and workforce training and development.
So many of our members and volunteers help drive this incredible tournament for the continued success we passionately aim to see again in 2023. “Thanks a Hole Bunch” for making this the number one, sought-after tournament year after year. Watch for registration to launch in early February. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2023 for the next Virginia Ship Repair Foundation golf tournament.
