The Virginia Ship Repair Foundation proudly celebrated its 7th Annual Outstanding Volunteer Award during a special recognition ceremony, honoring the remarkable dedication and contributions of industry volunteers. This prestigious award highlights individuals who have played a vital role in supporting VSRF’s programs, workforce development initiatives, and community engagement efforts.
This year, Terry Stead of Tecnico Corporation was recognized for his outstanding commitment to the Norfolk Technical Center’s Welding Program. Terry has dedicated countless hours to mentoring junior and senior welding students, providing guest instruction, evaluating senior projects, and conducting mock interviews to prepare students for careers in the ship repair industry. His hands-on approach and deep industry knowledge have been instrumental in shaping the next generation of skilled workers.
Beyond his work in education, Terry has been an active and passionate supporter of VSRF’s workforce development initiatives. He has contributed significantly to the expansion of Marine Trade Training Welding and Structural Fitter courses, as well as key programs such as the VSRF Annual Golf Tournament, Digital Innovation Competition, and Tradesperson of the Year competition. His ability to authentically connect with students and professionals alike has made a lasting impact on the industry’s future workforce.
To express gratitude for his dedication and service, Terry was presented with gift cards to Surf Rider and Lowe’s, along with a commemorative plaque recognizing his extraordinary contributions. His name will also be permanently displayed at the entrance of the VSRA office, alongside other esteemed award recipients.
