Workforce Development Committee Meeting

This meeting’s topic is 'Essential Trade Skills for the Maritime Industry – A Look at Industry’s demand and ongoing efforts to supply critical trade skills for the region’s ship building and ship repair industry. An opening presentation by Tim Richardt and Jackie Rondeau of the Hampton Roads Workforce Council (HRWC) will introduce attendees to the current and near-future demand and supply status of the essential trade skills throughout the region. Joe Frommelt of the Virginia Ship Repair Association will then present the status and efforts to supply additional skilled tradespersons for the industry via the Marine Trades Training (MTT) program. Additional presentations by regional MTT host-schools will then provide attendees with information regarding ongoing efforts of MTT-host schools which train future tradespersons year-round. At the conclusion of each presentation, representatives will field questions, provide answers, and lead a discussion centered on the current efforts and challenges, and the future expansion of participating schools’ marine trades training programs to help meet the needs of our maritime industry.

OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry Course (December 16-17)

The OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Industry course awards the 10-Hour certification card and meets all of the mandated regulations for the Maritime Industry (OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1915) course in a format that specifically addresses the challenges and environmental conditions specific to the shipyards. In addition, shipyard specific regulations and issues are covered in depth. Instructors are authorized by OSHA endorsed certification programs. Cards are issued through the Instructor's certifying body. All book, material and certification costs are covered in the course fee.
