No two days are the same! Crofton is seeking an experienced Marine Mechanic to join our team.
Primary Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Perform required maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to, but not limited to, diesel propulsion and generator engines, hydraulic systems, AC and DC electrical systems and wiring, vessel plumbing and piping systems, and vessel air compressor, valve, and piping systems on our fleet of Tug, Construction, and Dive boats.
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to four stroke gasoline outboard marine engines ranging from 10 horsepower to 250 horsepower.
- Perform inbound and outbound inspections of trailered boats.
- Perform maintenance and repairs to single, double, and triple axle boat trailers.
- Perform internal inspections of barges as needed to locate leaks.
- Inform management of recommendations to keep the boats, trailers, and equipment in good working condition.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Perform duties abiding by Crofton’s safety protocols.
- Document information via mobile phone, Tablet, and PC.
- Travel out of town on a short-term basis to accomplish repairs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to describe in detail conditions found, work performed, and repair recommendations.
- Be familiar with or learn USCG Subchapter M regulations as they pertain Crofton’s Tug fleet.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with and teach others.
- Possess knowledge of outboard gasoline engines.
- Must be able to proficiently tow, maneuver and back up trailers.
- Familiarity with USCG Subchapter M and/or T.
- Fundamental understanding of small vessel operations.
Required Education and Experience:
- 10+ years professional working experience on four to sixteen cylinder Detroit, Caterpillar, John Deere, and Cummins diesel engines is required.
- A valid Driver License with a clean driving record is required.
- Class A Commercial Driver License preferred.
- Factory training a plus.
- Experience with Twin Disc reduction gears is a plus.
- U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Deck or Engineering License is a plus.
- Technical, Associates, bachelor’s degree, and/or prior Military is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
- Exposure to construction and marine site dangers.
- Small and/or enclosed spaces.
- Moving about accomplishing tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
